Definition of ESO per the Plus System, Inc. By-Laws and Operating Regulations and the Interlink Network, Inc. By-Laws and Operating Regulations: An Encryption and Support Organization (ESO) is "any organization, which is not a Plus or Interlink Member, whose Plus/Interlink business relationship with a Plus or Interlink Member involves any of the following activities:
  • loading software into an ATM or terminal that accepts cards
  • loading or injecting encrypting keys into an ATM or a terminal/PIN pads
  • providing help-desk support that includes re-programming of ATM/terminal software

An ESO "must be registered with Visa before a Member may use their services."

Comments:
  • ESOs will need to submit certain due diligence information on an annual basis to refresh the data
  • ESOs are responsible for absorbing all costs associated with due diligence.
  • Sponsoring Financial Institutions are responsible for vetting all information obtained through the ATMIA website.

Your Sponsoring Financial Institution will be responsible for:
  • ESO Designation Agreement
  • OFAC Check
  • D&B Check
  • Credit Check on Principal Owner(s)
  • Agent Query (ARIS)
