View ShowroomLONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, SIOUX FALLS, SD, USA, April 30, 2018 - ATMIA today published new Best Practices for Customer Security Education, including tips on how consumers should protect their mobile devices when transacting at ATMs.
“We expect that the main way of transacting at ATMs in the future will be through the customer's mobile device/smartphone,” explained Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA. “In an app model, customers will be able to pre-stage transactions on their mobile devices. The role of customer security education is bound to become more important for protection of Customer Owned Devices (CODs) and keeping ATM transactions as safe and secure as possible.”
ATMIA’s Consortium for Next Gen ATMs, represented by just under 150 companies worldwide across all sectors of the ATM value chain, is developing an API APP model for ATMs and the manual is the first set of best practices in a series designed to protect the whole ATM ecosystem.
“The manual takes best practice from financial institutions around the world and distils the essence of security education for today's and tomorrow's ATM customers,” Lee explained. “It explores typical methods of attack, current protection measures in place, customer security tips as well as best-to-communicate core security messages to customers.”
ATMIA thanks DFR Risk Management, SPL Group, Upshot Advisors and the Security Subcommittee of the next gen ATM Consortium for their inputs and expertise.
The manual outlines common scams targeting customers and CODS and shares existing protection measures as well as ways to educate customers to ensure they protect their devices and their transactions.
