SIOUX FALLS, SD, LONDON, UK, December 4, 2014.  The ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) announced today that it has completed a major update of its “Best Practices for ATM Business Efficiency” manual.  Originally published in February of 2006, the updated version of the document takes a greatly expanded look at new business models for both financial institutions and independent operators, as well as functionality and operational capabilities that have only been available recently.

“Nine years ago, business models were based almost exclusively on interchange and surcharge revenues,” said ATMIA U.S. Executive Director, David Tente.  “Today, the focus is on bringing new functionality and new revenue streams to the ATM channel.  Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a great example of new services that benefit both consumers and operators.”

The ‘Cash Cycle and Cash Management’ chapter has been significantly expanded, taking into account the increased interest in recycling at the ATM.  New chapters have been added on ATM placement strategy and business continuity.  The discussion of outsourcing options is now updated to include bank branding arrangements.  And the capabilities of the new generation of advanced function ATMs is reviewed – including automated deposits.

In conjunction with this release, ATMIA is launching the Business Empowerment Portal.  Together, they form the foundation of ATMIA’s final project in its current five year plan – the Business Empowerment Programme.

The Portal will serve as an access point for information and resources to assist ATM operators.  “ATM Business Efficiency” and other Best Practices are highlighted.  It also includes an interactive regional map that links users to ATM industry facts and figures from across the globe.  And a new search tool will make it easier to find ATMIA members offering specific products and services.

“These new tools will be valuable resources for all ATM operators,” added Tente.  “The ATM business is evolving, and becoming more and more complex in the process.  Providing best practices and related services to help our members deal with those complexities is a big part of ATMIA’s mission.”

ATMIA members can download a copy of the manual from the Business Empowerment Portal or Best Practices web pages of ATMIA’s website.
