The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will meet November 27 to consider an ordinance prohibiting businesses that serve food and/or beverages in the unincorporated areas of the County from automatically providing straws or stirrers to customers.

The House Select Committee on Career Technical Education and Building a 21st Century Workforce is scheduled to meet on November 27 to discuss the career technical education climate of the state, as it relates to the need for more skilled workers in the career technical field.

The House Insurance Committee will hold a public hearing November 28 regarding S.B. 227, which requires health plan issuers to release certain claim information to group plan policyholders.

The Senate Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Workforce will hold a public hearing November 28 regarding S.B. 38, which prohibits an employer from failing to designate an individual who performs a service for the employer as an employee unless an exemption from the definition of "employee" applies to that individual.

The Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing November 28 regarding proposed amendments to Greenhouse Gas rules.

VIRGINIA

The Joint Subcommittee for Health and Human Resources Oversight is scheduled to meet on November 26 to receive updates on the Certificate of Public Need study from the manager of the Education, Health, Social Services, and Special Projects section of the State Division of Legislative Services and on the status of the 1115 waiver (Virginia COMPASS) application from the Director of the State Department of Medical Assistance Services.
