ATM Installed on Top of Table Mountain, Cape Town

ATMIA member First National Bank recently achieved a milestone for the ATM Industry in South Africa by installing an ATM on top of Table Mountain, a world heritage site and popular tourist attraction. Mike Arnold, CEO of FNB’s ATMs (shown on the right of photo) invited Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA (on the left), to take part in the press conference to mark this imaginative achievement. The ATM is situated in the restaurant on the mountain and allows foreign tourists to draw local currency using their country’s bank cards.

Table Mountain’s cableway has taken over 16 million visitors to the summit since it opened in 1929. These days, about 800,000 use the cable car each year.

Last year, FNB implemented a R100 million technology investment programme to expand its ATM network infrastructure.
