A January press release from the U.S. Secret Service announcing the first confirmed case of “jackpotting” a U.S. ATM sent a wave of near panic through the industry. Overnight, it became the hot topic of conversation and the subject of countless news items. And concerns have increased that explosive attacks could be next.
These emerging threats to ATM security in the U.S. will require a new level of preparedness on the part of all ATM operators. Jackpotting, for example, is both a physical attack and a cyber attack – weak defenses against either leave the ATM vulnerable. To assist both members and non-members in getting to that new level of preparedness, ATMIA will host a webinar titled “Emerging Threats to ATM Security in the U.S. Market” on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 10:00am CDT.
Our panel will begin by taking a look at threats that are new to the U.S. market, such as jackpotting and explosive attacks, as well as new developments in skimming devices. Next, both bank and independent ATM operators will share their thoughts on these threats and what they are doing to get ready. And finally, we will review related Best Practices manuals and other resources that may be helpful.
