Amazon to upsize cash-, cashier-free Amazon Go stores

E-commerce retailer Amazon, is testing its cashierless and cashless Amazon Go store concept in larger format spaces, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

Amazon launched the pilot at a store in Seattle, and hopes to prove that the idea will work in larger stores with higher ceilings and more goods on the shelves.

Technology used in Amazon Go stores allows customers to pick what they want from store shelves and automatically charges them for the selections when they leave the store.

Amazon already operates seven of the smaller format Amazon Go stores — which typically measure about 2,500 square feet — in Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle, according to the report.
