View ShowroomThe ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) is pleased to announce the release of the UK National Independent ATM Deployer (IAD) Study, led by industry expert Leland Englebardt.
This in-depth study provides a comprehensive analysis of the UK’s ATM landscape, backed by detailed economic and market data, and explores the evolving dynamics that are reshaping the industry.
The study offers a thorough overview of the ATM sector in the UK, examining the role of bank branches, cash demand trends, and ATM density across regions. It delves into the financial challenges and opportunities for ATM operators, exploring key revenue streams, such as Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at ATMs, as well as the impact of fluctuating interchange rates.
As contactless payments grow in popularity, the report also assesses the potential of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to become a dominant force in the ATM industry. The rise of new competitive pressures, coupled with evolving consumer behavior, is reshaping the traditional ATM model, driving a need for innovation and adaptation.
Key findings in the study highlight:
“As the UK continues to see shifts in both cash usage and payment technologies, it’s vital for ATM deployers to stay ahead of these changes,” said Lonnie C. Talbert, CEO of ATMIA. “This study provides the data and insights necessary to understand the key drivers affecting the ATM industry and to plan for future challenges.”
The report also emphasizes the critical importance of balancing consumer access to cash with the increasing operational costs for IADs, particularly as the number of bank branches declines. With independent ATM deployers playing an increasingly pivotal role in providing cash access, the study highlights the urgent need for stakeholders to address evolving industry concerns.
ATMIA encourages industry professionals, policymakers, and financial institutions to review the study’s findings to better understand the state of the ATM industry in the UK and to collaborate on ensuring the future viability of ATM networks.
