SIOUX FALLS, SD - ATMIA today published Best Practices for Cardless Transactions at the ATM.

“We believe strongly in the future of cardless as a convenient new form of transaction at the ATM,” explained Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA. “The manual offers a brilliant overview by international payments consultant Barry Forbes of the technical, operational, regulatory and marketing issues associated with this promising innovation. In addition, Douglas Russell, Director of DFR Risk Management and approved ATMIA consultant, has covered the security implications of the new technology.”

The manual defines and analyses cardless transactions and includes international case studies of new and successful cardless ATM transaction programs. It outlines how channel strategies are developing to take advantage of convergence and the interactivity between consumer-owned devices (CODs) and ATMs. The manual supports the global view of ATMIA that the ATM is destined to become the 21st century’s integrated payments hub.

“Major manufacturers have already announced technology that integrates mobile devices with ATM functionality, and several banks in several countries have released proprietary cardless transaction services,” explains Forbes in the Foreword. “Whether it is mobile-based pre-staging of transactions (where the mobile device replaces the ATM screen and keyboard) or proxy-based transaction completion (where mobile numbers, one-time-pins or voucher numbers, are entered in place of card swiping), or the use of newer QR code or NFC technology, Cardless@ATM appears to be trending.”

ATMIA’s new best practice manual is available for ATMIA members and should be read in conjunction with the association’s previous published works: “Integrated Payments and Customer Experience,” “Best Practices for Preventing Mobile Fraud,” and similar ATMIA Best Practice guides.
