Citizens Financial Group Inc. has entered a power purchase agreement with Orsted, a renewable energy product provider, to construct the Sunflower Wind Project to match 100% of Citizen's power consumption across its operational footprint.

Orsted first began building the 200-megawatt wind generation facility in Marion County, Kansas this year, with plans to finish in 2023, according to a press release.

Citizens' share of the project will be 25.8 megawatts. It will use these renewable energy credits to achieve 100% renewable power.

"The Sunflower Wind Project marks an important milestone for Citizens as we continue our journey to support a more sustainable future alongside our customers, colleagues, shareholders and communities," Beth Johnson, chief experience officer and head of ESG at Citizens, said in the release. "We're proud that this project will bring more renewable energy into the power grid and stimulate the local economy."
