Commonwealth Bank of Australia Completes Second Workplace in the Heart of Sydney's Innovation District

Thursday, June 25, 2020

Company: Commonwealth Bank of Australia

Dubbed The Foundry, the new building spans 51,000m² over six levels.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has joined developer Mirvac Group (Mirvac) to mark the completion of its newest workplace ‘The Foundry’ at South Eveleigh.

To celebrate the milestone, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian joined CBA Chief Executive Officer Matt Comyn and Mirvac CEO and Managing Director Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz alongside a selection of the precinct’s partners, stakeholders and employees in The Foundry.

South Eveleigh is already home to 4,500 employees in Axle with another 5,500 of the bank’s retail banking and technology teams to move to The Foundry from August this year.

Speaking at the event marking the completion of The Foundry, Mr Comyn said: “Our commitment to the South Eveleigh precinct is driven by a desire to create a workplace that would inspire our team to design leading digital experiences for our customers.

“We know innovation can’t happen in isolation, and that’s why we are delighted to be part of the NSW government’s ’innovation corridor‘ and collaborating with educators, entrepreneurs and the community in and around South Eveleigh.

“Five years ago, we earmarked South Eveleigh as our future workplace. The move to Axle, and soon to The Foundry, is part of CBA’s long-term investment in innovation, our people and our customers, and commitment to Sydney.”

The Foundry has been labelled the country’s first ‘groundscraper’ in reference to its large-scale size of 51,000m² over six levels and oversized atrium space.

The concept of enabling innovation has informed the design of the workplace, which features large open areas, hackable spaces – where barriers to collaboration can be removed – as well as quiet retreat zones for concentrative work.

The Bank’s workplaces at South Eveleigh are designed with flexibility, wellbeing, connectivity and sustainability in mind, and they are powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.

CBA has a history of providing leading workplaces for its people. Most recently, Axle at South Eveleigh was recognised as providing the best workplace experience in the country and top ten globally by Leesman, an independent authority on employee workplace experience.
