Commonwealth Bank Staff Give $2 Million to Organisations and Charities Across Australia

Wednesday, July 01, 2020

Company: Commonwealth Bank of Australia

With many Australians recovering from the devastation caused by our bushfires, followed by the economic impact of coronavirus, 2020 marks the first year in the program’s history that CBA employees have been able to nominate any eligible organisation or charity in their local community that needs a financial boost.

For over 100 years, the CommBank Staff Foundation has been supporting youth-focused organisations through the Community Grants Giving Program. The $2 million dollar program is made up of fortnightly contributions by CBA staff, which are matched by the bank.

Recipient organisations of this year’s grants are working to address a diverse range of issues across our community – including homelessness, Indigenous disadvantage, domestic violence and cancer support.

This includes Tranby, National Indigenous Adult Education & Training, Australia’s oldest independent Indigenous education provider.

Doctor Belinda Russon, Chief Executive Officer of Tranby said, “Educational empowerment and community connection are at the heart of what we do. Receiving the Commonwealth Bank Staff Community grant enables us to continue this valuable work and transition our face-to-face course content and materials online to ensure the community keeps learning and stays connected during this challenging time.

“Coronavirus has ensured that Tranby is doing things a little differently to what we usually do, but our community focus and social impact remain the same. We are extremely grateful to receive this grant and look forward to developing new cultural and educational content to benefit our students.”

Nathan Barker, Head of Community Investment at Commonwealth Bank, said, “CommBank employees are committed to helping their local communities and the CommBank Staff Foundation Community Grant Program empowers our people to own and support local causes that they are passionate about.”

“We have a long and proud history of employee giving here at CBA. While we typically have supported young Australians through this program, this year we’ve broadened our support to assist all deserving charities given the extremely challenging operating environment.”

CommBank Staff Foundation Community Grants have been awarded across each state in Australia.
