Community Banking Month, a time SHAZAM celebrates the many relationships we've built nationwide

As Community Banking Month comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on the personal, long-term relationships our SHAZAM team has built nationwide. As SHAZAM’s president and CEO, I celebrate that we’re a full-service provider dedicated to our clients and their success.

SHAZAM’s the only nationwide independent, member-owned debit network, processor and core provider supporting community financial institutions. What began as a small company with just a few employees in 1976, has grown into a well-respected and specialized team of more than 550 professionals.

SHAZAM is poised to help community financial institutions of all sizes be the best they can be, so everyone wins. From local farms to main street to small businesses, community banks connect people to their neighbors, giving everyone a stake in their shared success. Simply put, community banks are a vital link to enabling local businesses and neighborhoods to thrive.

In the United States, community banks comprise 96.8% of all banks. Not only do they provide more than 60% of all small business loans, but they also make more than 90% of all agricultural loans. With over 50,000 locations across the country, community banks employ 700,000 Americans and are part of the very fabric of our nation.

SHAZAM’s mission, “Strengthening community financial institutions,” guides our work. We understand that community banks face a future full of rapidly changing technology, shifting consumer behaviors and new waves of industry regulations. We solve these challenges by providing choices in innovative payment solutions, proactive fraud prevention, security services, a core solution and more — all without compromising quality or reliability. The flexibility we offer helps community banks of all sizes compete and provide solutions for their customers.

SHAZAM’s founder, Dale Dooley, had an innovative vision for the future of payments. He believed it should be possible for community banks to process electronic payments quickly, securely and cost-effectively. He also believed that consumers should have similar choices in their banking decisions. By supporting community banks and advocating for choice and flexibility, SHAZAM is working to make people’s lives better.
