Moscow Metro turnstile bank card payments surge in February

With all turnstiles now accepting bank card payments, the number of bank card payments at the Moscow Metro increased by 23% year-on-year: from 12.2 million in February 2022 to 14.9 million in February 2023, according to a press release.

On average, passengers make about 500,000 bank card payments per day at the turnstiles.

Moscow Metro modernized about 4,000 turnstiles; the new equipment processes bank card payments more than two times faster than the older system and three times faster when paying with biometrics. The turnstile equipment has large font and large LED screens and are equipped with a QR-code reader. The turnstiles also show the balance of the transport card or the number of remaining rides or days.
