Proposed Cashless Gambling Regulation in NSW – Update From Sandra Smith

February was dedicated to developing our campaign against the proposed cashless gambling regulation in NSW. ATMIA has reached out to both major political parties in NSW outlining our stance on this issue.

For those that are not familiar with the NSW Government's roadmap to move towards state-wide cashless gaming by 2028, the NSW Government has proposed to introduce a cashless gaming card that will eliminate the need for cash. ATMIA opposes the current proposal which unfairly targets law-abiding consumers. There are more effective, less blunt alternatives that exist such as biometric identification. March marks an active month with the Senate inquiry into banking in regional areas and the NSW State election being held on 25^th March. Both items could have a significant impact on the industry and will be addressed at our first Strategic Direction forum for 2023 is to be held on 4^th April at 4 pm AEST. Our new chairperson Matt Sykes is keen to address pertinent industry issues at this forum. Moving to our friends in the South East Asia region, I’ve been actively reaching out to key members in the region to hear how ATMIA can expand our presence in these regions and to share details of the industry issues that ATMIA needs to address in these countries.
