Standard Bank SA donates towards the COVID-19 fight

Standard Bank South Africa (SBSA) will make an initial donation of R10m towards several non-governmental organisations that are working closely with the South African government to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The funding will go towards securing supplies of hand sanitiser, water sachets, soap, gloves, masks, testing kits, and equipping testing and quarantine facilities.

“Corporate South Africa has a vital role to play in supporting the government and doing what we can to contain the spread of COVID-19. In this time of crisis, we must all play our part to protect the most vulnerable within our society,” says SBSA Chief Executive, Lungisa Fuzile.

Standard Bank will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and, working closely with all stakeholders, provide additional support where it is most needed. The R10 million donation is a first step.

“Standard Bank will also participate in the initiative established by President Cyril Ramaphosa and business organisations to ensure a coordinated and impactful approach to mitigating the health, social and economic implications of the pandemic.,” says Fuzile.

“Standard Bank stands with the people of South Africa during this extremely difficult period,” he added.

As Africa’s largest bank by assets, the group is also mobilising its teams across the continent to provide support where it is most needed, working with local partners.
