STATE AND LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS

CALIFORNIA

The Santa Cruz City Council will meet January 14 to consider amending the City's existing ordinance on environmentally acceptable food packaging and products.

The Senate Committee on Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing January 15 regarding SB 372, which requires distributors of beverage containers in the State to form a beverage container stewardship organization.

FLORIDA

The Miami Beach City Council will meet January 15 to discuss a resolution approving the recommendation from the employee suggestion program to discontinue purchasing paper and plastic single use cups in all of the departments of the City, and directing the City Manager to investigate the cost and feasibility of implementing such suggestion and to report findings to the City Commission.

INDIANA

The House Insurance Committee will hold a public hearing January 15 regarding HB 1004, which prohibits specified health care providers from billing a patient for amounts that exceed the in-network rates paid by the patient's insurance plus any deductibles, copayments and coinsurance amounts.

MAINE

The House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources will hold a public hearing January 17 regarding LD 102, which prohibits a manufacturer from selling, offering for sale or distributing for sale in the State a single-use plastic beverage container unless the container is composed of at least 15% postconsumer recycled plastic.

MISSOURI

The HealthNet Division will accept comments until January 15 regarding a proposed amendment to the Medicare conditions of provider participation, reimbursement and procedure of general applicability rules.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

The House Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee will hold a public hearing January 14 regarding HB 1696, which amends the application fee for new state banks or credit union charters and requires applicants to pay any additional examination costs exceeding the fees set forth in statute.

The Human Services Department will hold a public hearing and accept comments until January 17 regarding proposed amendments to rules regarding the SNAP and Cash programs.

The Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public hearing January 17 regarding proposed amendments to the Title V permitting rules.

The Senate Committee on Health and Long Term Care will hold a public hearing January 17 regarding SB 6110, which adds a new section of code to the State Food, Drug, Cosmetics and Poisons Chapter; creating a drug importation program for the State.
