COLORADO

The House Committee on Judiciary will hold a hearing on June 7 regarding Colorado SB 176 which would address discriminatory or unfair employment practices pursuant to Colorado's anti discrimination laws.

MICHIGAN

On June 7, 2021, the Ann Arbor City Council will consider an amendment to the Code of Ordinances prohibiting race-based hair discrimination.

CALIFORNIA

The Assembly Labor and Employment Committee will hold a hearing on June 8 regarding California SB 572 which would amend the Labor Code, providing for alternatives to judgement liens.

NEW YORK

On June 8, 2021, the New York City Committee on Consumer Affairs and Business Licensing will consider several bills pertaining to establishing requirements and standards for third-party food delivery service workers.

VIRGINIA

On June 8, 2021, the Fredericksburg City Council will consider adopting a five-cent tax on each plastic bag distributed to customers at grocery stores, retailers, or restaurants.

MASSACHUSETTS

The Public Health Committee will hold a hearing on June 9 regards Massachusetts H 3796 which would require prescribers to perform an evaluation prior to prescribing opioids and benzodiazepines.

The House State Government Committee will hold a hearing on June 9 regarding Pennsylvania HB 1006 which would prohibit certain practices of discrimination because of race, color, religious creed, ancestry, age, hairstyle, or national origin by employers.

Patrick McGarry, Jr. is a Regulatory Associate in the Regulatory Services Division. Before joining Stateside Associates, Patrick served as a Legislative Correspondent in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, focusing on rural healthcare, telecommunications, transportation and infrastructure, and economic development. Patrick also has research experience at state-level think tanks, international chambers of commerce, and political action committees. Complete bio here.

How long have you worked at Stateside? One Month.

What’s your favorite place in the world? The Cliffs of Moher – anywhere in Ireland, really.

What’s the last show you binge-watched? Schitt’s Creek! I’m also watching Stranger Things for the first time.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I’m writing a cookbook!

What was your first job? When I first moved to DC, I gave Segway tours!
