WASHINGTON

On July 19, 2021, the Battle Ground City Council will vote on a resolution that would declare opposition to any local income tax on the residents and businesses of the City.

ILLINOIS

On July 19, 2021, the Chicago Committee on License and Consumer Protection will consider an ordinance establishing rules and regulations for third-party food delivery services.

OREGON

On July 19, 2021, the Newport City Council will conduct a public hearing to gain comments about a proposed five percent tax on prepared food and beverages. The tax would be levied directly on the consumers and would be put on to either the November 2021 or the May 2022 election ballot.

MARYLAND

On July 20, 2021, the Montgomery County Council will introduce a bill prohibiting an employee settlement agreement with a no-rehire clause. A public hearing is scheduled for September 14, 2021.

MASSACHUSETTS

The Joint State Administration and Regulatory Oversight Committee will hold a hearing on July 20 regarding Massachusetts SB 2088 which would establish the Cybersecurity Control and Review Commission to recommend standards for cybersecurity data collection and requires any business contracting with the state to adopt such standards.

The Joint Committee on Public Service will hold a hearing on July 21 regarding Massachusetts SB 1671 which would require the Commonwealth to reimburse any essential worker or their direct family member who was required by their employer to use personal, sick, or vacation time due to COVID-19 exposure or required quarantine for said personal, sick, or vacation time.

Ryan Reynolds

Senior Legislative Issue Manager

Ryan is a Senior Legislative Issue Manager on the Education and Economy team. Prior to joining Stateside, Ryan gained legislative experience working in the New York Senate for the Chair of the Environmental Conservation Committee. He graduated from the State University of New York at Farmingdale with B.S. in Science, Technology, and Society. A native of Long Island, Ryan is a die-hard Islanders fan and misses New York bagels. In his free time, Ryan can be found tossing around a rugby ball or hanging out with his roommate’s dog, Flex.

Where do you call home? I am originally from Long Island and now live in Columbia Heights in DC.

How long have you worked at Stateside? I’ve been at Stateside a little over 4 years.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I drove an ice cream truck in college.

What’s the last show you binge-watched? I was jumping back and forth between Doctor Who and Loki.

What is your biggest pet peeve? People standing side-by-side on the escalator.

What’s your favorite sport to watch (or play)? I love hockey and the Islanders. They lost a heartbreaker to the Tampa Bay Lightning who went on to win the Stanley Cup.

What’s the most adventurous food you’ve ever eaten? I had Balut in the Philippines. I’ll save the squeamish and say Google it.
