Special Election Set to Fill Alabama House Seat Vacated By Lawmaker’s Death
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R) has set the dates for a special election to fill the Alabama House seat vacated by the death of Rep. Thad McClammy, D-Montgomery. The primary will be November 16, with a runoff, if necessary, on December 14. The special general election will be March 1. The deadline for candidates to qualify with the Democratic and Republican parties is September 14 at 5PM. The deadline for independent and/or minor party candidates to qualify is November 16 at 5PM.

MINNESOTA EO 21-30
On August 27, Governor Tim Walz (D) issued an Executive Order to eliminate the strict enforcement of certain hours of service regulations that would prevent or hinder the efficient transportation of livestock, as well as hay, forage, water supplies, and supplemental feed commodities, all of which are critical to maintaining healthy livestock. This Executive Order issues a state of emergency in Minnesota that requires relief from regulations incorporated in pertaining to hours of service for motor carriers and drivers of commercial motor vehicles providing direct assistance to emergency relief efforts by transporting livestock, hay, forage, water supplies, and supplemental feed commodities including but not limited to corn silage, distiller grain, and beet pulp. This Executive Order is effective immediately and remains in effect for 30 days.
MISSOURI EO 21-09
This order was issued by Governor Mike Parson (R) on August 27. It went into effect on August 31 and expires on December 31, 2021. This order will suspend the provisions relating to telemedicine and pharmacology for telemedicine, to decrease the risk of exposure to both healthcare providers and patients.

On September 7, 2021, the Nashville Metropolitan Council will consider a resolution urging the Metropolitan Public Health Department Chief Medical Director to require masks be worn by all individuals in public indoor spaces. Additionally, the Council will consider an ordinance to require masks be worn by all individuals in public spaces.

On September 8, 2021, a Culver City Public Works Department will hold a community meeting regarding 5G cell sites, placement, and safety.

On September 8, 2021, the Albuquerque City Council will consider amending sections of the Hospitality Fee Ordinance and Lodgers’ Tax Ordinance.

VIRGINIA
On September 8, 2021, the Alexandria City Council will hold an information session on a proposed five-cent plastic bag tax. The City has indicated intentions to present a draft ordinance to the Council this fall with a tentative effective date of January 1, 2022.
