CALIFORNIA

The Senate Appropriations Committee will hold a hearing regarding California AB 2473 on August 8. This measure adds core competency requirements for counselors in an alcoholism or drug abuse treatment and recovery program.

The Senate Appropriations Committee will hold a hearing on August 8 regarding California AB 2451. This measure would enact provisions relating to drought management.

The Senate Appropriations Committee will hold a hearing on August 8 regarding California AB 1632. This measure requires businesses to allow individuals with eligible medical conditions to use the business's employee toilet facilities.

The Senate Appropriations Committee will hold a hearing regarding California AB 2703 on August 8. This measure requires a person who receives state funding to deploy a publicly available electric vehicle charging station to agree to operate a station that complies with the Energy Commission regulations.

On August 10, the Calabasas City Council will hold a study session regarding climate resiliency initiatives and determine the next steps in developing a climate action plan for the city.

COLORADO

On August 8, the Englewood City Council will meet with the City Attorney and outside counsel to discuss 5G telecommunications regulation and limitations on the city's authority under applicable law.

MAINE

On August 8, the Portland City Council will hold a public hearing to set an election date for an item eliminating the sub-minimum wage, increasing the minimum wage in the city to $18 an hour, and strengthening protections for workers over a three year period. Tipped workers will then earn $18 an hour plus tips. The initiative also provides an $18 minimum wage for workers currently not receiving the minimum wage including taxi drivers and other ride-hauling services, personal shoppers, delivery workers, and those doing work for a unit of government.

MONTANA

On August 9, the Bozeman City Commission will hold a work session regarding short-term rentals regulation.

NEW JERSEY

The Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee will hold a hearing on August 11 regarding New Jersey AB 1733. This measure prohibits the Director of Investments from investing any state retirement funds in fossil fuel companies.

Maxwell Wirick

Intern

Maxwell Wirick’s hometown is Indianapolis, Indiana. He recently graduated from Hanover College with a B.S. in Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology and earned a Political Science minor. When reminiscing his Stateside experience, he will remember the meaningful conversations with his fellow interns and coworkers. After completion of the Stateside internship, he will continue searching for jobs in the Midwest while also continuing his education. While in D.C. he fell in love with the museums and the free access to public knowledge. During his internship, he was able to refine his research and analyzing skills. He plans to apply these skills to excel in different potential career paths.
