The Louisville City Council will meet on November 15 to consider amendments to the commercial building provisions of the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code. The proposed code would require that certain types of new commercial development meet an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) performance standard, a performance rating of energy use per sq. ft. within the building. The EUI standard also allows for the production of on-site renewable energy to offset energy use. In addition, the proposed code regulates fossil fuel and electric resistance space and water heating systems for new commercial construction, with exceptions for various types of equipment and building systems.
