First research in 10 years that has highlighted that there are major opportunities for cash innovation to improve business resilience and give consumers what they want. 

Despite the rise of electronic payments, cash remains resilient with approximately $40 trillion in circulation globally as of 2023. The amount of cash in circulation has increased in many countries, including the United States, and 57% of businesses believe they will never be completely cashless. 

Cultural preferences, such as in Germany, and economic factors, like the cost-of-living crisis in the UK, contribute to cash's enduring appeal. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK has recognized the issues caused by reduced access to cash and is considering legislation to protect it. 

Overall, demand for cash acceptance remains strong or is increasing across Europe, indicating that cash is here to stay.
