As August moves forward, ATMIA is driving progress toward universal financial access—powered by strong alliances, innovation, and the continued importance of cash. Across Europe, Africa, India, and the Middle East, our initiatives are shaping policy, strengthening infrastructure, and promoting a payment ecosystem built on choice.

Europe: Protecting Cash for Communities

Momentum continues to build as the EU nears legislation safeguarding the right to access and use cash. ATMIA’s long-term advocacy—based on research and engagement with stakeholders—has been central to affirming that cash is not merely a convenience but a vital public service.

Recent collaborations in Sweden, Germany, and Spain have reinforced partnerships between policymakers, banks, and service providers, helping rural and underserved areas remain connected to the cash economy. These developments reflect growing recognition that a robust payment system needs both physical cash and advanced digital channels.

This October, the ATMIA Europe & Emerging Markets Summit in London will unite central banks, regulators, and innovators—including representatives from the Deutsche Bundesbank and the European Central Bank—for in-depth discussions on the Eurozone’s payment future.

Emerging Markets: Blending Digital Growth with Cash Access

In Africa, India, and the Middle East, cash remains essential for economic inclusion, even as digital adoption accelerates. For many communities where infrastructure is still developing, cash ensures participation in daily commerce and financial activity.

In August, ATMIA has expanded partnerships with operators, technology providers, and financial institutions to grow secure ATM networks. Initiatives range from India’s hybrid solutions—linking digital onboarding with cash access—to cutting-edge ATM rollouts in African and Middle Eastern cities. The aim: foster inclusion while embracing digital innovation.

Collaboration Driving Change

Whether in policy advocacy or technology deployment, partnerships remain the foundation of ATMIA’s success. We are connecting banks, IADs, central banks, NGOs, and regulators to craft forward-looking payment policies. Through shared resources, active working groups, and our upcoming London event, members are staying ahead of regulatory changes and technological shifts.

Looking Toward a Unified Payments Landscape

As 2025 moves closer to its final quarter, ATMIA’s vision stays focused: a payment environment where cash, cards, mobile money, and digital wallets work together. With regulatory momentum building and partnerships growing stronger, the months ahead will be critical in advancing our mission for a multi-rail payment future.
