Alabama becomes fifth state to make ATM crime a felony
Thursday, May 22, 2025
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) signed Arkansas SB 511 into law on April 17, 2025. This measure makes automated teller machine (ATM) impairment a class B felony. “Impairment” is defined as the purposeful removal of an ATM or the purposeful impairment or interruption of an ATM's use. The new law will take effect on August 3, 2025.
All ATMIA members have access to legislative monitoring services that send out daily updates, such as this one, on bills that impact the ATM industry. Although all 50 states are monitored, members can select which state or group of states they receive alerts for. A separate repository is maintained for current law in each state, which is updated at the end of the legislative year. Members may also participate in quarterly meetings of the GRC (Government Relations Committee) and the annual Washington, DC Fly-in.
