The ATMIA Global Crime Database, CCMIS (Crisis & Crime Management Intelligence System), continues to provide valuable insight into ATM crime trends worldwide. As of August 2026, the database contains 62,938 reported ATM crime incidents from 4,084 reports.

Fraud has continued to be the most common type of ATM crime in the U.S. over the last eight months, with skimming and card data compromise accounting for 91.6% of all reported criminal activity. While theft of entire ATMs continues to occur in larger cities, these incidents are unfortunately not always being reported.

Dispenser jackpotting has declined to approximately 2% of all attacks, while cash trapping remains the most common type of ATM fraud globally. We are also seeing an increase in cash-trapping incidents in the U.S. For those unfamiliar with this type of fraud, cash trapping uses a device placed over the ATM’s cash dispenser to prevent cash from reaching the consumer, allowing criminals to collect it later. Regular ATM inspections can help identify these devices quickly and prevent customers from becoming victims.

If you know about an ATM crime incident, let others know, too. Even non-members can report ATM crime incidents to the CCMIS, and reports can be submitted anonymously. Both the reporter and the exact location of the crime can remain anonymous.

Not sure how to report an incident? Visit the ATMIA Resource Library and search for “crime webinar” to learn how to create an alias, search the database, and analyze ATM crime trends.
