The Crisis & Crime Management Intelligence System (CCMIS) now contains more than 62,000 reported ATM crime incidents, making it one of the industry's most valuable resources for tracking crime trends and emerging threats.

In the United States, fraud remains the most common form of ATM crime, with skimming and card data compromise accounting for more than 91% of reported incidents over the past six months. While ATM thefts continue to occur—particularly in larger cities—many incidents go unreported, limiting the industry's ability to identify trends and share timely intelligence.

Globally, cash trapping remains one of the most common fraud techniques and is becoming more prevalent in the U.S. This attack uses a device to prevent cash from reaching the customer, allowing a thief to retrieve the funds after the customer leaves. Regular ATM inspections can help detect and prevent these attacks.

If you become aware of an ATM crime incident, please report it to CCMIS. Both members and non-members can submit incidents, and reports may be made anonymously, protecting both the reporter and the exact location of the crime.
