Five Great Things to Look Forward to this Year
Thursday, January 22, 2026
Happy New Year, everyone!! And how did 2025 go by so quickly?? We are just weeks away from the U.S. conference…and when that is over, half of February has already left us behind.

Nevertheless, you, me, and our industry are in for an amazing year! We are indeed just a few weeks away from the U.S. annual conference and I am really looking forward to it – as I hope you are. This is everyone’s opportunity to learn about new developments that will help propel even greater growth in ATM deployments worldwide. Just as important as new technology is the networking that goes on from the first hour to the last. This is the place to develop new contacts. And to refresh and maintain old ones.
The second great thing to look forward to all year is the expanding deployment of “Super ATMs” – which also happens to be the theme of this year’s conference. The functionality of ATMs in retail spaces is growing remarkably. In part, as a result of the shrinking number of bank branches in rural and low-income areas. Recycling cash often reduces operating costs by reducing the frequency of replenishments. And can also open the door to acceptance of cash deposits. All of which is “music to the ears” of consumers in search of closer banking services.
ATMIA USA is taking a slightly different approach to its advocacy efforts this year. Much of our funding in recent years has been focused on state-level activity. It has become very clear, however, that the two most important issues for members in every state are rising ATM crime rates and acceptance of cash at the retail level. Therefore, ATMIA will elevate its level of support this year for passage of the Consumer Payment Choice and Safe Access to Cash bills currently being considered by Congress. We are very confident that both could become law this year.
In conjunction with those advocacy efforts, the fourth great thing to look forward to this year is an expanded Washington DC Fly-in, April 14-15. Troutman Strategies, our new advocacy partner, will assume responsibility for organizing this year’s Fly-in and setting up all our appointments on the Hill. We expect to have several groups of 3 – 5, each with their own itinerary, reaching out to more members than at any of our previous Fly-ins.
And finally – the ability to report ATM crime to the ATMIA global crime database (the CCMIS) is being opened to all who have data to report. Many of our members have informed us that they have customers who would be willing to report ATM crime but would not benefit from an ATMIA membership. Additional data from such sources could significantly benefit the system and improve the accuracy of trend analysis. More information and instructions will be forthcoming.
I sincerely hope that 2026 is a great year for all of you, your businesses, staff, and customers/clients. Looking forward to seeing you all in Arlington..
Best regards to all.
