It seems especially appropriate that the ATM Industry Association would give its conference in London a complete refresh (including a new name — ATM & Cash Innovation Europe) as the industry celebrates the 50th anniversary of the installation of the first modern ATM in that same city.

The conference, previously known as European ATMs, will take place June 12–14 at the Lancaster London Hotel.

"In 2017, we are celebrating both the 50th anniversary of the installation of the worlds first ATM and the 20th anniversary of the founding of the ATM Industry Association," said Ron Delnevo, executive director for ATMIA Europe. "Such milestones demanded a truly magnificent event and that is what the ATMIA and our new partners Reconnaissance International have created."

For those unfamiliar with the name, Reconnaissance International is a global source of business intelligence on holography and authentication for document security, and an authority on related markets, strategic management and technical issues.

The company works with clients from a broad range of industries — security printers, packaging and converting companies, law enforcement agencies, trade associations, investment professionals and governmental departments.

According to Delnevo, partnering with Reconnaissance International allows ATMIA to move its events to the next level.

"Building on experience gained by the ATMIA in operating conferences and trade exhibitions around the planet for more than 15 years, this new partnership has further extended the already unrivalled ability of the association to attract the finest speakers, sponsors and exhibitors," he said.

Sessions at this year's event will cover all manner of ATM-related innovations involving cash, self-service, branch transformation and multichannel customer service. In particular:

workshops (included in the price of registration will address the role of the ATM in an omnichannel banking strategy and examine various modalities of biometric authentication and their potential to enhance customer convenience and security;

BBC Technology Correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones, will offer his thoughts on what's coming next in digital innovation and its implications for all of us;

NCR Chairman and CEO Bill Nuti, will take a look at how the ATM has transformed banking over five decades, and how new technologies will transform the ATM in the years to come;

executives from the Royal Mint, the Bank of England, the European Commission and the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank will provide four perspectives on the future of cash;

Andrew Martin, CEO of RCBG will survey the IAD segment and explain why he believes that IADs will soon come to dominate the remote ATM market, as banks redefine the branch concept with ever more automation.

nearly two dozen breakout sessions will offer expert insights on the cash cycle, innovating for profit, the benefits of outsourcing, software innovation, managing consumer payment preferences and more.

"From the podium will percolate the thoughts of the leaders of major banks, Independent ATM deployers, equipment manufacturers, service providers and software developers," Delnevo said. "In addition, major Central Banks will be represented at a senior level, accompanied by original academic thinkers. … Those who attend will be able to fully engage in the ultimate shared-learning experience."

In addition, Delnevo said, individuals in attendance will have ample opportunities to mingle with 600 other senior financial services professionals — at luncheons, during coffee breaks, over drinks at evening receptions in the sold-out exhibit hall … and at a very special gala dinner and brief awards ceremony commemorating the first 50 years of the ATM.

The dinner will take place at Gibson Hall, a converted banking hall and exquisite historic landmark in the heart of the city of London. The dinner, which includes cocktails, canapés and a three-course meal, requires a separate registration and ticket purchase.

Special guest speakers will include Raymond Pettitt, the head of branch, SkyBranch and global contact centers for Barclays — appropriately enough, the FI responsible for installing the world's first ATM — and James Shepherd-Barron, son of John Shepherd-Barron, the man who invented that ATM.

"This new European Flagship cements the positions of the ATMIA as a world leader in ATM and payments-related events," Delnevo said. "The sell-out trade exhibition, run concurrently with ATM & Cash Innovation Europe, further enhances the unrivalled quality of the experience for all those participating."

ATM & Cash Innovation Europe takes place June 12–14 at the London Lancaster Hotel.
