The ATMIA/ASA merger means access for all!

That’s right! For the past 3½ years, only ASA subscribers had access to ATM security best practices and the contents of the global ATM crime database. As of January 1, 2025, that all changed. Every member now has access to those invaluable resources.

Last week we sent out the 14^th quarterly ATM Crime Trends Report to every ATMIA member, globally. This is a 38-page analysis of ATM fraud and physical attack incidents that have been reported in the CCMIS (Crisis and Crime Management Intelligence System). The annual trend report is already in the works and will be available shortly, with a comparison of 2024 trends to those in 2023.

Even the smallest ATMIA member now has access to a full library of ATM security best practices that would cost tens of thousands of dollars, if provided by a security consultant. Software-related best practices, for example, are often ignored by smaller operators. Because they are complicated and expensive. Interested? Read through the ATM Software Security Best Practices Guide, Version 4, published in September, 2023. Read through to the very end or you will miss one of my favorites – the “Ten Immutable Laws of ATM Security”.

The only way all this works is if everyone makes a concerted effort to report and record all ATM crimes that they become aware of.  Yes – the CCMIS houses over 38,000 incidents of ATM crime.  But we know it does not include all crime activity. And that is what we are striving for!

If you do not already have an alias for reporting ATM crime, take just two minutes of your time and create an alias now for you or your business. It can be any name you wish – real or imagined. Only CCMIS administrators will know who it belongs to. Attack victims are also anonymous. The system does not ask for business names or street addresses.
