Anyone/everyone can become an ATM crime fighter
Monday, February 23, 2026

And that statement is no exaggeration. If you learn about an attack on any ATM, whether you are an ATMIA member or not, you can report it to the ATMIA global crime database (the Crisis & Crime Management Intelligence System, or CCMIS).
Good data is critically important to understanding ATM crime trends. And more good data is better than less – which is why ATMIA has opened its database to receiving reports from all ATM users and providers. If you become aware of an ATM crime and can provide a few basic details, please do report that incident. The system is capable of detecting potential duplicates, which are reviewed by staff – so do not be concerned about adding an incident that has already been reported by someone else.
Attacks on ATMs are not something that is predictable. There is no standard MO that gets repeated over and over again. Staying aware of current trends across the country is important to both law enforcement and ATM deployers. Over the past year, for example, there has been a significant increase in particular types of cash-out attacks, such as jackpotting, unlimited operations, and DMA (Direct Memory Attacks). Knowing where these attacks are occurring; what type of attack it is; and what countermeasures are working; is very helpful in impeding the success of those attacks.
Reporting ATM crime incidents is a very simple 4-step process:
- Go to the ATMIA website
- Click on the ATM Crime Database option on the right
- Scroll down and click on Record an Incident
- Enter as much data as you can in the form displayed
If you would also like to have access to the full database, that is one of many benefits that ATMIA members enjoy. Review all of the data attached to any of the 54,000+ incidents recorded since May of 2021. Create your own crime trend analysis for any group of states during a specific period of time. Use the system as a crime database for your own organization by limiting data results to those attached to your own alias.
We encourage everyone to fight ATM crime by reporting ATM crime. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the CCMIS or how you can contribute to this important effort.
Best regards to all.
