ATMIA also stands for ATM industry advocacy. And March 25-26, 2025, is your opportunity to be part of that advocacy by participating in the 2025 ATMIA Washington, DC Fly-in. Join your colleagues to meet with legislators and staff for a full day of activity on Capitol Hill – advocating for key issues and helping them better understand our industry.

Our event begins with a group meeting from 5:00 – 7:00pm on Tuesday, March 25 at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue. It is a great opportunity to get to know your colleagues better. For those who have never participated in a Fly-in, as well as the experts, we will discuss all the logistics – how the itinerary is structured, navigating the Hill, transportation. And we won’t forget about lunch in the Senate or Congressional cafeteria.

The key legislative issues we will be discussing the next day, March 26, are ATM crime, consumer payment choice, and cryptocurrency regulation. The “Safe Access to Cash Act” was the primary concern for our last two Fly-ins. Introduction and support for that bill in the new Congress continues to be at the top of our advocacy list. It would make theft of/from all ATMs a federal felony, replacing the misdemeanor property crime penalty commonly applied at the state level.

Support for the “Payment Choice Act” was not as universal as the crime bill last year but still garnered several co-sponsors. That bill would require the acceptance of cash for in-person, retail transactions, up to a certain threshold. Its primary objective is to bolster financial inclusion for those mostly dependent on cash payments. Rounding out the top three issues is an “ask” for simple and rational regulation of the cryptocurrency industry – preferable within a single agency.

ATMIA members in good standing who are interested in participating in the 2025 DC Fly-in may contact David Tente, Executive Director, USA & Americas, for more information. It is not too early to make a room reservation at the JW Marriott, as rooms get scarcer and more expensive as we get closer to the event.

ATMIA would also like to thank FCTI for sponsoring the 2025 DC Fly-in. FCTI is a leading nationwide ATM solutions provider for over 8,000 7-Eleven stores across the United States. Their patented MBA technology, network partnerships, and leading software developments offer businesses real marketing, distribution, and revenue-generating opportunities through the ATM channel.
