Wednesday, October 21, 2026
The ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Axel de Blok of dormakaba as Chairman of its Europe & Emerging Markets (EEM) Board, effective immediately. Axel will serve in this position through the end of 2027.
Axel currently holds the position of AVP Global Strategic Sales, Safe Locks and Access Solutions at dormakaba and brings extensive industry experience, strategic insight, and a strong understanding of the evolving ATM and cash ecosystem.

His appointment comes at an important time for ATMIA as the association continues to strengthen its international presence, advance industry advocacy, and promote greater collaboration among stakeholders across the ATM, cash, and payments sectors.
As Chairman, Axel will play a key role in supporting the strategic direction of ATMIA's Europe & Emerging Markets region, helping to address industry challenges, identify new opportunities, and strengthen engagement with members and industry partners.
Erika Navarrete, Executive Director, Europe & Emerging Markets at ATMIA, welcomed the appointment:
"We are delighted that Axel has agreed to take on the role of Chairman of our Europe & Emerging Markets Board. His industry knowledge, international experience, and commitment to collaboration will be invaluable as we continue to build on the work of ATMIA across the region.
At a time when the cash and payments landscape is undergoing significant change, strong industry leadership and cooperation are more important than ever. I look forward to working closely with Axel and our Board members to strengthen our advocacy efforts, champion payment choice, and ensure that the ATM industry continues to play a vital role in financial inclusion and access to cash."
Looking ahead to 2027, ATMIA will continue to focus on key regional priorities, including protecting access to cash, promoting consumer payment choice, supporting innovation, and strengthening cooperation between financial institutions, independent ATM deployers, manufacturers, service providers, and policymakers.
Axel's appointment also coincides with preparations for an important milestone in the industry's history, as 2027 marks the 60th anniversary of the ATM. This provides an opportunity to reflect on the industry's achievements while exploring how ATMs will continue to evolve to meet changing consumer needs.
ATMIA congratulates Axel on his appointment and looks forward to his leadership in helping to shape a stronger, more connected, and resilient ATM industry across Europe and Emerging Markets.
Axel de Blok, Chairman of the ATMIA Europe & Emerging Markets Board, commented:
"I am delighted to take on this role and look forward to working with Erika, the Board, and the wider ATMIA community. As our industry continues to evolve, collaboration and innovation will be key to addressing emerging challenges, strengthening our industry, and ensuring continued access to cash and payment choice across Europe and Emerging Markets."
