London, UK & South Dakota, USA – ATMIA has today launched the official international industry logo for celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the ATM in 2017.

“ATMIA is exceptionally pleased with this beautiful design by Networld Media Group,” commented Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA. “Its striking elegance will do the ATM industry proud. We’d like to thank Cardtronics, the world’s largest ATM owner / operator, for their generous global sponsorship of this logo and the 50th anniversary celebration, which belongs to the worldwide ATM community.”

The world’s first ATM was installed in London by Barclays Bank in 1967. Last year, ATMIA convened a 50th ATM Anniversary Committee to plan how best to commemorate this historic milestone.

“Cardtronics welcomes the opportunity to join ATMIA and our industry colleagues in commemorating this milestone anniversary for the ATM, which continues to evolve as the world becomes more convenience‐oriented,” said Tom Pierce, chief marketing officer, Cardtronics. “We applaud this very distinguished logo, celebrating 50 years of the pioneer of self‐service banking – the ATM.”

ATMIA has set up a 50th ATM Anniversary portal and is compiling a media kit featuring the ATM Anniversary Fact Sheet and the Extreme ATMs Dossier. The association plans to celebrate the anniversary with a historical exhibit at the 2017 US and European events. A commemorative coin with 50th ATM anniversary honored on the one side and the ATMIA’s 20th anniversary, which also takes place in 2017, referenced on the other side will also be produced.

“We will focus on the incredible power of the ATM in our celebrations – this is just as much about the future as it is about the first 50 years of this machine that has changed the world,” Lee concluded.
