Australian Cash Usage on the Rise
Tuesday, November 12, 2024
The surge in cash use in Australia, as indicated by the latest balance sheet data from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), is a significant development. The data shows a notable increase in the value of Australian banknotes since early August, with the total number of notes issued rising by $300 million for the week ending October 16.

These figures give further evidence of the recovery of cash usage in Australia. Increasingly, consumers are waking up to the risks posed by a cashless society. They recognise that a cashless society means increased fees, security issues, and less reliability when they need it most—times of natural disasters and tech outages.
