DealMakers publishes rankings quarterly and annually for investment advisors, sponsors, legal advisors and reporting accountants for both M&A and general corporate finance for SA-listed companies.

We’re delighted that our Corporate Finance team was honoured at the DealMakers awards for their significant achievements in 2019 – these include being announced as the winner of the coveted Financial Advisor of the Year for deal flow and Financial Advisor to the BEE Deal of the Year.

This recognition comes despite the challenging corporate environment SA experienced last year with overall deal activity reducing by 8%. Nedbank CIB nevertheless competed brilliantly and ended the year advising on more deals than last year’s winner. This highlights our significant effort in securing mandates in a highly competitive environment.

Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking Awards:

• 1st place for Investment Advisors in the M&A category by deal flow, with 24 deals (up from 21 deals in 2018);
• Investment Advisor to the BEE Deal of the Year, being Nampak Products’ (Nampak) disposal of Nampak Glass to Isanti Glass 1 (Kwande Capital 60% and SABSA 40% (AB InBev));
• 3rd place for Sponsor in the M&A category by deal value, with R29,8bn in deals;
• 4th place for Sponsor in the M&A category by deal flow, with 28 deals;
• 4th place for Investment Advisors in the General Corporate Finance category by transaction flow, with 6 deals;
• 4th place for Investment Advisors for the decade ended 2019, with 195 deals being concluded to the value of R115bn; and
• 5th place for Investment Advisors in the M&A category by deal value, with R16,4bn in deals, being the highest-ranking SA bank.
