Important Customer Alert 23: ‘Deep Insert’ Skimming
Please see attached, information on ‘Deep Insert’ skimming and how to defend against it.
Deep Insert skimmers (also referred to by EAST as ‘card reader internal’ skimming devices) are not new – a growing number have been reported on ATMs with motorised card readers in EMEA, APAC and the Americas; but what is new is that DIP card readers are now also under attack from Deep Insert skimming. All ATMs are at risk because anti-skimming solutions that use jamming technology or detection are not designed to defend against these deep insert skimmers.
The ATM industry’s solution to the Deep Insert skimming problem is Card Protection Plate (CPP). CPP is available for major card reader models used in ATMs and SSTs - motorised and DIP - including NCR SelfServ and Diebold Opteva ATMs.
TMD Security will be sharing insight into Deep Insert skimming and best practice defence in a live webinar hosted by FSPA on 27 April 2017, 11am EST.
