Bans on Cashless Retail Establishments – July 2023 Update

Grass roots activity in the effort to require that consumers have the right to pay with cash continues to be very strong. In May, Montana became the ninth state to pass legislation requiring that retail establishments accept cash for in-person transactions. There are a number of states with prospective bills that are still making progress – Arizona, Illinois, Maine, New York, both North and South Carolina, Ohio, and Oklahoma,.
