Everlink Reports Strong Initial Uptake Of 3D Secure Authentication Service Upon Signing the First Four Clients Onboard

Following Everlink Payment Services Inc.’s announcement of the launch of their 3D Secure Authentication Service through the Visa Consumer Authentication Service (VCAS) for both Visa and Mastercard card products back in January, Everlink is pleased to announce that four clients have already signed up for the new ancillary service. Sunova Credit Union and connectFirst Credit Union have both opted to move forward with 3D Secure services under the Visa Debit program, while Libro Credit Union and Servus Credit Union have selected 3D Secure services under the Debit Mastercard program.

As eCommerce transactions continue to skyrocket worldwide, credit unions, other financial institutions and many businesses have embraced more advanced ways of preventing fraud without impacting the seamless approval of cardholder purchases. In fact, Visa has reported an 85% decrease in checkout times, with the implementation of EMV 3D Secure compared to 3D Secure 1.0, due to the additional layers of security, which include:

  • Risk-Based Authentication (RBA): Based on machine learning algorithms, approximately 95% of transactions are authenticated via RBA according to Visa, creating a frictionless experience for cardholders.
  • One Time Password (OTP): Completely replacing static passwords, high-risk transactions will trigger a dynamic OTP sent to the cardholder via text or email for authentication.
  • A plethora of richer data points: 150 data points with EMV 3D Secure vs. 10 data points with 3D Secure 1.0, allowing for more robust risk-based authentication.
