The NSW state election saw the proposal to completely ban the use of cash at poker machines rejected by voters. While the Minns Government has not entirely ruled out cash bans at poker machines this is certainly a better outcome than a complete ban on the use of cash, depriving consumers of choice. Additionally, with a number of important Government inquiries into cash and the payment system underway, ATMIA has produced a Position Paper on Cash in the Digital Age and the effect of the Regional Banking closure.
