View ShowroomHappy New Year to all our members in the U.S. and across the globe. It is, of course, a “new year” for many different reasons. One of them being that most states are beginning new legislative sessions. Only four meet biennially – Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, and Texas. And some got early starts by pre-filing measures on ATM crime, consumer payment choice, and ATM licensing.
Thanks to the advocacy fund contributions of many of our members when they renew their memberships, ATMIA USA is able to continue providing access to Stateside legislative alerts to all current members. This monitoring service covers all 50 states, and in some cases, Washington, DC. Stateside staff reviews all legislation introduced at the state level and alerts us to any activity related to issues that ATMIA and its members have predefined. This includes matters such as ATM licensing, fee caps, security requirements, crypto regulation, and more.
Last year, only 19 states did not introduce legislation that triggered a Stateside alert – and four of those were not in session last year. The map displayed here shows how many alerts were issued in each state. Each alert is very detailed, includes a link to the most recent version of the document, identifies the sponsor and the bill’s outlook for the future. Other tools provided by Stateside allow members to generate customized reports and track the measure’s progress.
If you have anything to do with your organization’s government relations or are simply a member of its management team, this can be a very important and strategic tool. To opt-in to receiving Stateside alerts, login in to your ATMIA account and click on ‘Email Preferences’. Scroll down a bit to ‘General Emails’ and make sure that the ‘Stateside Alerts’ box is checked. If the state of Virginia, for example, suddenly introduces a bill to cap ATM fees a few weeks from now, you will receive an alert.
I also encourage you to take your advocacy activities to the next level. Four shared sponsorships are available for the Stateside alerts. Each sponsor will have its company logo, linked to its website, on the alert header/banner for the remainder of 2023. Last year, we received 270 alerts, which were emailed to 300-500 (depending on the time of year) ATMIA members over the course of the year. That amounts to between 81,000 and 135,000 views – or looking at it another way, about 20 issues of the U.S. Region newsletter.
